System Requirements

One of the things that makes the Amazing Charts Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) system so affordable is the ability to run on off-the-shelf computers, which you can buy online or at any office supply or computer store. In fact, you can run Amazing Charts on nearly every PC that you can purchase today.

Amazing Charts can also be used on netbooks and tablet computers, and works on nearly all Windows Operating Systems (e.g., Windows 7, Vista, XP, Small Business Server, and others). Even Apple Macintosh users can use Amazing Charts on computers running Bootcamp, Parallels, or VMware.

Minimum System Specifications

When buying a new computer, we recommend you get one that meets or exceeds these specifications:

  • Processor: Intel or AMD processor(s) running at 2 GHz or faster - most processors made in the last two years will do just fine.
  • OS: Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Small Business Server 2003, or newer (with latest Service Packs). We recommend the Pro version of these - especially for the "main" computer or server.
  • RAM: 2 GB or more for local/client computers - 4 GB or more for the main/server computer.
  • Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768 or higher - this means some netbooks with screens of 10.1" or less will cut off some windows.
  • Hard Drive: At least 160 GB of free space.
  • Connectivity: An active Internet connection is not required for regular use, but will be needed for certain features such as ePrescribing and drug/drug interaction checking.

10 or More Users?

But, if you have more than a few users, or are using ten or more different computers, we recommend you set up a dedicated computer to hold your Amazing Charts databases.

This server computer should meet or exceed the following specifications:

  • Processor: Intel or AMD processor(s) running at 2 GHz or faster
  • 64-bit OS: Windows 7 Professional or Windows Server 2008
  • RAM: 8 GB or more.
  • Hard Drive: At least 500GB of free space (1TB if you have large imported item files).
  • Connectivity: An active Internet connection is not required for regular use, but will be needed for certain features such as ePrescribing and drug/drug interaction checking.

Wired or Wireless?

While many of our clients use a wireless network without any issues, wireless connections may cause slowness and connectivity issues even when configured correctly.

If configured incorrectly, PHI may be exposed, which means you are breaching HIPAA and have a lot of explaining to do.

Amazing Charts thus strongly recommends that all computers are hardwired to the Main ("Server") and that medical practices avoid running their EHR over a wireless network.
