“I really love Amazing Charts – it comes as close as can be to the perfect hybrid between an old-style chart note and an EMR.”

System Requirements for Amazing Charts

One thing that makes the Amazing Charts Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) system so affordable is the ability to run on standard personal computers. In fact, you can run Amazing Charts on nearly any PC that you can purchase today.

Amazing Charts works on most Microsoft Windows Operating Systems (e.g., Windows 7, Vista, Small Business Server, and others), and even runs on tablets and netbooks.

Main Computer Versus Local Computer

First, let's define the computers that run Amazing Charts.

At most typical practices, multiple "local computers" access the Amazing Charts database from a single "main computer."  At smaller practices, the "main computer" may be used for multiple purposes.

But if you have more than a few users, or are using ten or more different computers, we recommend you set up a dedicated "main computer" to hold your Amazing Charts databases.

In rare cases, a very small "micro" practice may have a single computer to both store and access the Amazing Charts database.  This is by default the "main computer."

Wired or Wireless?

While many of our clients use a wireless network without any issues, wireless connections may cause slowness and connectivity issues even when configured correctly.  If configured incorrectly, PHI may be exposed, which means you are breaching HIPAA and have a lot of explaining to do.

Amazing Charts strongly recommends that all computers are hardwired to the Main ("Server") and that medical practices avoid running their EHR over a wireless network.  For best network performance we suggest a wired gigabit connection.

If you must use a wireless network, we suggest using equipment that can take advantage of the 802.11n standard with multiple access points.

We recommend you contact your IT professional to assist you with hardware related needs outside of the Amazing Charts software. If you don't have an IT professional, click here to view our list of certified IT partners who service various regions of the country.
