We REALLY need a strike thru feature to correct things after signing off. A/C 4 has a voice recognition menu item - doesn't do much yet - but if you want to use Dragon u will need this feature. Was talked about several versions ago but nothing came of it and I have been using Dragon for about 2 years now have ver 9 pro works fairly well but sometimes prints amazing stuff that I don't catch example Assessment anal pleasure instead of anal fissure caught that one - patient went to the ER and had a shot of dying and felt much better - missed that one

Dragon version 10 Medical is really accurate -- been using it about 4 months now after moving up from ver. 9.5. Unfortunately costs $1,000 for Small Practice version 10 Medical.
My biggest Dragon problem is confusion between "delete that" and "read that" -- it seems to always get it wrong.
I agree about the strike thru, however. Anything that's standard in the paper chart should be possible in AC.

Cary,

I know what you mean about the strike thru. I was having so many mistakes I started jotting the funnier ones down. Here you go:

1. No blood on his tools (no blood in his stools)

2. Thanks inflammation. (Thanks!)

3. Wonder 27 (127)

4. Trickle as rides (triglycerides)

5. Asset producers! (acid reducers)

If you like those, I have quite a few more!(UNFORTUNATELY)

I upgraded from Dragon 9 to version 10 last year, I could tell that it was faster and more accurate, it only cost about $200.00 for the upgrade which included support ( which I don't need to use very often). I did spend some time "training " it to recognize words I use frequently ( menorrhagia was men from Russia). I haven't tried to use the correction/training feature from within AC and don't know if that works. I miss errors frequently and don't see them until I print the note to send back to the referring doc,by that time the error is permanently in the patients chart and it is too laborious to create an addendum for correction.... I too vote for ability to strike through.

Another common error in Dragon is substituting 1:30/80 (time) for 130/80 (blood pressure). You would think that the Medical Edition would default to 130/80 when there is a "/" in the term.

By the way, version 10.1 is now a free upgrade for version 10 Medical users. If you call Nuance Technical Support at (800) 654-1187, they will send the free 10.1 DVD upgrade (free delivery). It is not available as a download from the Nuance website (yet).

Ryan, would it not be almost as easy to say "one hundred-thirty"? I would think that would fix the time issue, although I know I am also so trained to say "one thirty over eighty".

John,
Go to "Tools" then "Formatting" then "General" and UNCHECK "Format times". This should work.

John -
Been thinking about upgrading to dragon 10 was reading that it takes a lot of horsepower to run what kind of hardware are u using?

Cary: It does help to have the latest hardware, but not much. The best results are with my Intel Core2 Duo with 3 GB RAM running Windows Vista. It is also fast with Windows 7 RC on an Athlon x64 desktop. Neither of these are the latest hardware, by the way (2007). However, I am also very pleased with the speed and accuracy on a Dell 1501 laptop, Windows XP, AMD Turion 64x2 with 1 GB RAM.

GuitarPaul - If I could think that fast, I probably would say "one hundred and thirty"!

Dave - Thanks, I was unaware of that simple fix. Much obliged. I will no longer cringe when the systolic is 130...

My most memorable dragon substitution was a consult letter to a new female FP. I stated "sincerely yours"....it heard, "Sensually yours!" Freudian slip....maybe, She laughed it odd, and avoided me for months!
