Understanding the
Ongoing Need for Telehealth

By Apurva Komandur

“Telehealth is here to stay”– a highly popularized phrase in healthcare and for good reason. According to a study of 36.5 million people in the United States and data from Blue Health Intelligence data repository, telehealth usage increased dramatically in the first four months of the pandemic. In 2019, telehealth accounted for 0.3 percent of all interactions, a percentage which rose significantly to 23.6 percent in the first four months of the pandemic. The researchers conducting the study stated, “although some of the associations we uncovered may be unique to the COVID-19 environment, arguably the insights we gained will be relevant to the future trajectory of telehealth no matter what direction it takes.”
