What is Meaningful Use?

Meaningful Use was created in 2010 to incentivize clinicians to perform certain actions within their practice and improve the quality of care patients received.

Meaningful Use used to be a program that both Medicaid and Medicare doctors could participate in. However, in 2017, the Medicare Meaningful Use program was replaced with the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, or MIPS, for Medicare-enrolled practitioners.

For Medicaid-enrolled practitioners and hospitals, however, the Meaningful Use program continues.

In Amazing Charts, eligible practitioners can use the Meaningful Use Wizard™ dashboard along with the patient portal, secure messaging, Direct messaging and other features to track and report on the Meaningful Use Modified Stage 2 measures and successfully meet all 2017 requirements. In 2017, all providers attesting to Medicaid Meaningful Use must report on a continuous 90-day period on the Modified Stage 2 measures or on Stage 3 measures. For the 2017 EHR reporting period, the attestation deadline is February 28, 2018.

Note: All providers who have not successfully demonstrated Meaningful Use in a prior year and are seeking to demonstrate meaningful use for the first time in 2017 to avoid the 2018 payment adjustment must attest to Modified Stage 2 objectives and measures.
