Any clinical staff member can perform CCM services including MAs, nurses, and LPNs, as long as a physician oversees the program and performs the initiating visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a medical assistant perform CCM services?

Yes. MAs, LPNs, and RNs can perform and document CCM services. The physician must provide general supervision and perform the initiating visit, but ongoing monthly coordination can be delegated to clinical staff. 

Does CCM work with Medicare Advantage plans?

Traditional Medicare Part B covers CCM. Medicare Advantage plans may also cover it, but rules and reimbursement vary by plan. Always verify before billing. Many Advantage plans do reimburse CCM but may require prior authorization.  

What if a patient wants to opt out?

Can I bill CCM and an office visit in the same month?

 Yes. CCM covers non-face-to-face time and does not replace office visit billing. Bill both in the same month, just do not count face-to-face time toward the 20-minute CCM threshold.

What about patients without smartphones or technology access?

CCM does not require any patient-facing technology. All documentation and time-tracking happens on your end. Patients interact through regular phone calls, making it highly accessible for older Medicare patients.
