Costs and Limitations

In order to maintain ongoing and uninterrupted access to e-prescribing and lab and registry interfaces, licensed providers are required to purchase an annual subscription to Amazing Charts Guardian Angel Support.

Electronic prescribing, drug-drug and drug-allergy interaction checking, and drug-formulary checks
ePrescribing, drug-drug and drug-allergy interaction checking and drug-formulary checks (170.314.b.3, 170.314.a.2, 170.314.a.10) provide electronic real-time access to information and connection to pharmacies. Customers with a typical broadband internet connection will be able to use these features (supported by Surescripts and NewCrop Rx) if they have purchased Guardian Angel Support & Maintenance. There is a yearly, per-provider cost for Guardian Angel Support & Maintenance ($1195). ePrescribing is only available for licensed clinicians who are legally permitted to prescribe medications. Setting up ePrescribing requires verification of a provider’s identity. Amazing Charts utilizes the SureScripts network for electronic prescription routing. When exceptions are encountered in the process, e-fax is used to deliver the prescription to the pharmacy.

Receiving electronic results from lab interfaces
Customers with a typical broadband internet connection will be able to receive and import electronic results from labs by setting up lab interfaces (170.314.b.5). Laboratory interfaces can be activated for a one-time fee of $0 and $900, however lab companies often pay Amazing Charts directly on behalf of a practice and the cost to the practice in those typical cases is $0 for activation. Each year, there is a per-practice, per-interface fee to support the ongoing transmission of lab results. Typically, this fee is $150 per interface, but practices with multiple interfaces receive a discount.

Transmitting immunization information with immunization registries
Customers with a typical broadband internet connection will be able to export and send electronic immunization records to immunization registries (170.314.f.2). Immunization registries are free to activate and there are no additional fees associated with these registries. Amazing Charts outputs immunization registry information according to the HL7 2.5.1 standard. Amazing Charts is connected to many public immunization registries for submission of immunization data.  Those not available at this time are in development.

Transmitting syndromic surveillance information to public health agencies
Customers with a typical broadband internet connection will be able to export electronic syndromic surveillance information (170.314.f.3). These files can then be uploaded to public health registries. Amazing Charts exports the data according to the HL7 2.5.1 standard. This feature is included in the cost of Amazing Charts. Amazing Charts is not currently connected with any states or regions for syndromic surveillance.  In order to submit data for syndromic surveillance, the provider can download the syndromic surveillance file and upload it to the appropriate public health registry manually.

Transmitting information to patient portals or sending direct messages
Customers with a typical broadband connection can send and receive patient portal messages and send and receive direct messages. (170.314.b.1-2, 170.314.e.1-3). These features are included in the cost of Amazing Charts.  Providers can exchange transfers of care via Direct messaging as long as the provider and recipient are members of the Direct Trust. Providers can enroll in the Direct Trust for free when setting up their portal and direct messaging accounts in Amazing Charts.

Accessing patient education on problems, medications and labs
Customers with a typical broadband connection can access patient education on problems, medications and labs. (170.314.a.15). These features are included in the cost of Amazing Charts.
