Effective January 1, 2021, CMS proposes to adopt CPT editorial panel recommended revisions to office and other outpatient evaluation and management services (E/M) for the first time in 25 years. According to an article released by Medical Economics, “the foundational changes are aimed at making E/M office visit coding and documentation simpler and more flexible. This move should free physicians and their teams from administrative burden which has led to time-wasting note bloat and box checking.” These changes are being enacted to:
- Decrease administrative burden – remove scoring by History and Examination
- Decrease the need for audits
- Decrease unnecessary documentation in the medical record not relevant for patient care
- Commit to changing coding requirements to simplify the work of the health care provider and improve patient health
The following on-demand webinar discusses these CPT coding updates for 2021, including significant Evaluation and Management changes. It also discusses what these changes mean for your practice and how you can best prepare moving forward.
